The Most Common Reasons for a Tesla Screen Not Turning On:

Here are the most common causes of your Tesla touchscreen not working or turning on:

    1. Depleted Battery:

If the battery does not have enough charge or has been drained completely, the screen may refuse to turn on.

This can happen when you leave your car inactive for an extended period or forget to turn off certain power-consuming features.

    2. Insufficient Power Supply:

Even your Tesla screen requires a reliable power supply to function properly. So, if there is a problem with the power source or the power cable connecting the screen to your car’s battery, the screen may fail to turn on or become unresponsive.

The power disruption may occur due to various factors, such as a drained battery, loose connections, or a faulty power source.

    3. Software Glitches or Bugs:

Tesla vehicles rely heavily on software to power their screens and various functionalities. But Tesla’s onboard software can also freeze or become unresponsive to cause firmware glitches or software updates that didn’t install correctly.

Besides that, other software issues, such as outdated software, corrupted files, or conflicts with other applications can trigger software glitches. This may also prevent your Tesla screen from turning on like it usually does.

    4. Physical Damage:

Factors like extreme temperatures, water damage, Accidental impacts, or physical impact can damage the screen’s internal components and can prevent it from working properly.

Especially if the screen has been cracked or damaged, there’s a high chance that it won’t respond correctly.

    5. Overheating:

Another reason can be overheating. Since Tesla electric vehicles are equipped with powerful electric motors, they generate a significant amount of heat.

Thus, if your car’s cooling system or ventilation is not functioning properly, the screen may not turn on due to overheating.

    6. Sensor Calibration Issues:

Tesla’s screens are equipped with various sensors that provide critical data for navigation, climate control, and other advanced functionalities.

If any of these sensors are not calibrated correctly, the screen may black out or refuse to turn on.

    7. Hardware Malfunction:

In some cases, a hardware malfunction can be the culprit behind your Tesla screen’s unresponsiveness. Even though this is relatively rare, it’s essential to consider this possibility.

This can include a faulty display unit, damaged cables, loose wiring, a malfunctioning control module, or faulty internal components.

How to Fix If Your Tesla Screen Not Turning On?

If your Tesla’s touch screen ever becomes frozen, unresponsive, or won’t turn on, you can try the below instructions to rectify the problem effectively:

How to Fix If Your Tesla Screen

    STEP_1:

Start by making sure that your Tesla is properly charged. If not, connect it to a reliable power source and wait for a few minutes to allow the battery to charge.

Before connecting your car to the charging solution, inspect the cable and power outlet of the charging station too.

This way you can make sure that the charging cables and ports of your car as well as the power outlet on the charger, are in good condition and the connection is secure.

    STEP_2:

Restart your Tesla car by pressing the brake pedal and the two scroll buttons on the steering wheel simultaneously. Then, keep holding them in that pressed position until the screen turns dark or the “Tesla” logo appears on your car’s screen.

If you own a Tesla Model S or Model X car, you will see the “Airbag” icon lighting up on the display. This indicates that your car is rebooting. This may take up to 30 seconds for your car’s touchscreen to restart.

If the problem is caused due to any temporary software glitches, bugs, or other system errors, it will be fixed once your Tesla screen restarts successfully after rebooting.

    STEP_3:

If the “reset” or “soft reboot” fails to fix the issue, you can try performing a “hard reboot“.

First, make sure that your car is parked safely and that all the doors on your Tesla are closed.

Now power cycle your Tesla by using your car’s central touchscreen. So, go to the “Controls” or “Settings” menu and locate “Safety and Security“. Then scroll down to the “Power Off” option and click it.

Wait at least 3 to 5 minutes until your car completely turns off. Remember not to touch anything during these 3 to 5 minutes, including the touch screen, your car’s brake, doors, the steering wheel, or the touchscreen.

Once your car has completely powered off, press the Brake pedal firmly for about 30 seconds to turn on your car again. Then, you can check how the screen works now.

If the problem isn’t fixed yet, try to factory reset your Tesla by visiting the “Controls” menu and navigating to the “Service” sub-section. Then scroll to the “Factory Reset” and click on it.

This will refresh all your Tesla’s system configuration and your Tesla interference will go back to the “default” state. So, make sure to keep a backup of any important stored data.

    STEP_4:

Disconnect any cables or USB drive that is connected to your car’s USB ports. If the “Tesla Bluetooth” is on, turn it off and clear the “Bluetooth” history.

Clear the browsing cache. Delete all trip data that you’ve made by going to the “Controls” > Select “Trips” > reset. You may also need to delete all location history.

If the problem remains, you should check the software and firmware version of your Tesla. Go to the main “Settings” menu on your Tesla’s screen and tap on the “Software Available.”

If there’s any latest software update available, follow the system prompts and on-screen instructions to download and install them accordingly.

Make sure that you have a strong and stable data or Wi-Fi connection while updating your Tesla. Also, ensure that there’s “no pending” or error that occurs during the software update.

    STEP_5:

If none of the above steps resolve your Tesla Screen problem or there’s physical damage/hardware fault that is causing the issue, immediately contact Tesla Support for further assistance.

In case of internal or external hardware malfunctioning, you should not take any risk and always let Tesla technicians take care of the issue firsthand.
